Franchising In Malaysia

KFCH and QSR to open more drive-thru’ outlets

By ZAZALI MUSA

KFC Holdings (M) Bhd and QSR Brands Bhd are planning to open at least four new drive-through stores nationwide yearly.

Chairman Tan Sri Muhammad Ali Hashim said the two companies would be identifying suitable locations for the outlets.

He said the new drive-through outlets would house KFC and Pizza Hut restaurants under one roof.

“We want to provide convenience to our customers where they can enjoy their KFC and Pizza Hut meals simultaneously,” Ali said.

He was speaking at the opening of the first drive-through KFC and Pizza Hut store in Taman Bukit Dahlia, Pasir Gudang. It is also the 22nd drive-through outlet in Malaysia.

The two companies invested about RM5mil in the latest 24-hour outlet.

The drive-through outlet was part of the company’s plans to extend its operations to smaller towns.

Ali said quick-service restaurants (QSRs) would be the main choice for consumers during a slowdown as they cut spending on dining in posh restaurants.

“QSRs are already becoming a part of the dining culture worldwide and a pricing strategy makes the products affordable to most people,” he said.

He does not anticipate a price war among QSR operators in the country during the slowdown as the pressure of business cost rises.

KFC’s new chicken processing plant on an 8.09ha site in Bandar Tenggara, Kluang costing RM30milhas started operation recently.

It is the company’s third plant after other plants in Port Klang and Bukit Mertajam. Each plant has the capacity to process 1.5 million chickens monthly.

The Johor plant supplies processed chickens to KFC and Rasamas outlets in Johor, Malacca and Singapore and the plant receives its supply from 10 contract farms in Johor.

KFCH now has 519 KFC outlets in Malaysia, 72 in Singapore and eight in Brunei; QSR Brands has 228 Pizza Hut restaurants in Malaysia, 42 in Singapore and three KFC outlets in Cambodia.
